Had to take a break from the computer and was able to get out a few days this week. Early in the week the weather was sunny, warm and beautiful. I got a chance to get out into the woods and rebuild the hideout and get ready for fall and winter "birding". The flooding changed the area. There are a lot of new trees down and very little undergrowth. You can see all the way across the swamp.
Yesterday, we ventured out right around lunch time and it was overcast and cool. By the time we made it to the hideout, it was raining pretty hard. There are still enough leaves on the trees and they provided a decent canopy so we did not get too wet. There were several deer we spooked in the swamp and they headed for the golf course. But, we found 3 others out in the field. The heavy rain covered our sound and they never heard us coming. I was in full camo, so they kept looking straight at me and could not figure out what I was. Bogey could not see them from where he was due to the vegetation along the edge of the woods. Finally, one of them stamped her foot and snorted. Bogey heard that, and we were off to the races.
